DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

(a) Loosen the lower radiator drain cock plug.
CAUTION:
Do not loosen the lower radiator drain cock plug while the engine and radiator are still hot.
Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.
(b) Remove the radiator cap.
(c ) Loos en the c cylinder block drain c oc k plug.

The plug is on the backside of the generator on the exhaust manifold side.

ADD ENGINE COOLANT

(a) Tighten the lower radiator drain c oc k plug.
(b) Tighten the c cylinder bloc k drain c oc k plug.
Torque: 13 N·m (130 kgf ·cm, 9f t·lbf )
(c ) Loos en the upper radiator drain c oc k plug.
(d) Slowly fill the radiator with T O Y O T A Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC ).

T O Y O T A vehicles are filled with T O Y O T A SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the
engine cooling s ys tem and other technical problems, only use T O Y O T A SL LC or similar high
quality ethylene glycol based non-s ilic ate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate c coolant with
long-life hybrid organic ACID technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology
consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

NOTICE:
Never use water as a substitute for engine coolant.
(e) Squeeze the inlet and outlet radiator hoses several times by hand, and then check k the level of the
coolant.
If the coolant level is low, add coolant.
(f) Tighten the upper radiator drain c oc k plug.
(g) Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir tank until it reaches the FULL line.
(h) I ns tall the radiator cap sub-assembly and reservoir tank cap.
(i) Start the engine and warm it up.
(j) Bleed air from the cooling s ys tem.

NOTICE:
Before starting the engine, turn the A /C switch off.
Adjust t the air conditioning temperature setting to M A X (H O T ).
Adjust t the air conditioning blower setting to LO .
(1 ) Warm up the engine until the thermostat opens. While the thermostat is open, allow the
c coolant to circulate for several minutes.

Thermostat opening timing can be determined by squeezing the inlet radiator hose, and sensing vibrations
when the engine coolant starts to flow inside the hose.
When squeezing the radiator hoses:
Wear protective gloves.
Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot.
Keep your hands away from the radiator fan.
(k) Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.
(l) A dd engine coolant to the FULL line on the radiator reservoir.
